Styling a sterling silver box chain: length, layers and simple details
A practical guide to choosing chain length, styling a silver box chain and checking the details of your necklace before ordering.

Let one chain do the work
A fine silver chain can be the smallest detail in an outfit and still give it a finished feel. Start by wearing it alone with a neckline you use often. That makes it easier to decide whether you like its position, how visible you want it to be, and whether layering would add anything.
Our Sterling Silver Box Chain is described as 925 sterling silver with a lobster clasp, made in Italy. It comes in several verified length and width combinations. Check the product page for the currently available options and price before purchasing.
Check length on yourself
The same chain length can sit differently on different people. Neck size, clothing and the position you prefer all matter, so a photograph on someone else is a styling reference rather than a promise of where a necklace will sit on you.
Use a soft measuring tape or a piece of string to preview a length, then measure the string flat. Try it with the neckline you expect to wear. Keep it loose enough to handle comfortably and avoid pulling it tight. If you own a necklace whose position you like, compare its measured length with the listed option.
Understand what the photograph includes
The box-chain photograph compares lengths, but each item is one chain. No pendant is included. Product options, rather than the number of chains shown in a photograph, define what is supplied.
If you plan to use your own pendant, check its attachment opening and the chain's clasp dimensions before ordering. A chain width alone does not establish that the clasp will pass through an existing pendant. Contact us if you need a measurement that is not shown.
Try layers without making them a requirement
If you already own a second necklace, compare the two together before buying another piece. Different lengths can give each chain its own space. Start with two simple pieces and see how they sit when you move, rather than judging only a still photograph.
A single silver chain can also work with either a warm gold-tone ring or a silver-and-black band. Keep the combination restrained if you want the chain to remain the focus. Our guide to choosing an everyday ring compares band widths and finishes to help you build a coordinated look.
Plan your order and keep the details
All orders include free US delivery. We allow 2 days for handling and estimate 3–5 days in transit after dispatch. These are estimates rather than a guaranteed arrival date, so leave extra time for a gift tied to a particular occasion.
When your chain arrives, inspect the item and check your selection before wearing it. Retain the packaging if you may need an eligible return or exchange. Our shipping and returns pages explain the process, and sales@customjewelsmith.com can help with questions about your order.
